In short

At Klaro, we make the best effort to minimize the cookies we use. Visiting our Website sets no cookie at all, unless you pick a language in the switcher, which is remembered in one. The Application needs a few cookies to keep you signed in and to sign you in safely.

A cookie is a small text file placed on the hard drive of your computer or your mobile system when you visit a website on the Internet. The cookie is placed on your system by the website itself (“internal cookies”) or by partners of the website (“third-party cookies”). The cookie allows for the recognition of your system when you return to the website, thanks to a unique identification number, and helps to collect information about your surfing habits. Different types of cookie exist. In general we distinguish between cookies that are essential / strictly necessary for the functioning of the website and non-essential cookies (features, analytics, advertising or tracking).

Belgian law of 13 June 2005 relative to electronic communications contains provisions about cookies and their use on the Internet. Current legislation comes from a European directive (ePrivacy directive), which implies that cookie regulations differ between European countries. Klaro App SRL is located in Belgium and therefore conforms to Belgian legislation where cookies are concerned.

Aim and utility of cookies

When surfing our Website and while using our Application, you expressly accept the use of cookies. We use cookies to improve your visit, to offer you an optimum user experience and to help us to understand our users. Nevertheless you are free to delete or limit cookies at any moment by modifying the settings of your browser (see “How to manage my cookies”).

The deactivation of cookies may have an influence on the functioning of the Website or the Application. Certain features may be limited or inaccessible. If you decide to deactivate cookies we cannot guarantee you a fluid and optimum visit.

What type of cookies do we use?

We distinguish several types of cookie depending on the required goal:

Essential cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary for the correct functioning of the Website and Application and may not be deactivated in our systems. They are placed on your computer as a result of some of your actions, such as your privacy settings, your connection, or the use of certain forms.

Non-essential cookies

These cookies are not necessary for the correct functioning of our Website but they allow us to offer you an improved and personalised user experience.

Feature cookies

These cookies allow us to give you access to more features and to personalise your user experience. They may be installed by ourselves or by partners whose services we have added to our Website.

Analytical cookies

These cookies allow us to follow visits and traffic on our Website and Application in order to measure and improve performance. These cookies allow us to know which pages are the most or the least popular and to know the way in which visitors navigate the Website or use the Application.

Which cookies are actually used?

Three, and here they are by name.

On the Website

klaro.lang is a feature cookie, and the only one the Website ever sets. It appears when you pick a language in the switcher at the foot of the page, and it holds two letters: en or fr. It exists so that the next page you open is in the language you chose rather than the one your browser asks for. It lasts a year, it is readable only by our own domain, and if you never touch the switcher it is never written.

In the Application

These two concern people who have a Klaro Cards account. A visitor to the Website never meets them.

x-klaro-token is an essential cookie. It is what keeps you signed in, so that you do not have to log in again on every page. It holds a signed authentication token, it is marked HttpOnly (no script can read it) and SameSite=Strict (no other site can cause it to be sent), it travels over https only, and it lasts seven days by default. Signing out deletes it.

rack.session is an essential cookie that exists for security rather than for convenience. It appears while you sign in through a third party, Google for instance: it carries the state of that exchange and an anti-forgery token, which together are what prevent somebody else from completing a sign-in in your name. It is encrypted, it is short-lived, and it is not set at all when you sign in with an email address and a password.

The Application also remembers a few interface preferences, such as the board objectives you have already read and the columns you have collapsed in a Kanban board. Those live in your browser's own storage.

Marketing cookies

Klaro Cards uses no marketing cookies. Not on the Website, not in the Application. You are not tracked.

Third-party cookies

The Klaro Cards application uses Stripe for handling electronic payments. Stripe sets cookies of its own.

How to manage my cookies?

To activate or deactivate cookies you need to modify the settings of your browser (in the “preferences” or “options” section of the menu). The following links give you more information about how to manage your cookies. You can also consult the “help” window of your browser.

Deleting x-klaro-token signs you out of the Application. Deleting klaro.lang simply hands the choice of language back to your browser.

Privacy

Certain information that we collect by using cookies may be considered personal information. For more information on the way in which we collect and process personal information as well as your rights, please read our Privacy Notice.

Changes to this Policy

We may occasionally update this Cookie Policy to inform you about any changes in the cookies we are using or to comply with new legal obligations and/or guidelines from relevant authorities. We will alert you about any changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the end of the Policy. Any changes or modifications will be effective immediately upon posting the updated Policy on the website. We recommend you to periodically review this Policy to stay informed of updates.
